Elliot Simpson - 'Lost Focus' - TV Commercial
Director and Filmmaker Elliot Simpson was looking for a sound partner to bring a notepad concept to life.
A film about digital detoxing that doubles as a future thinking car Ad campaign.
The Challenge
Elliot had a clear vision and concept for the soundtrack to accompany this short film. It needed to feel mysterious, 'otherworldly' and represent the uncertainty of our future as a human race with the relationship we currently have with digital media.
The energy needed to fit the pace and mood of the scenes presented as well as create a journey in itself sonically.
The Approach
This was a bespoke commission and license so we had to make Elliot feel like the process and results were worth the additional investment above and beyond licensing pre-existing music.
It allowed freedom to explore how the music could weave between scenes and create continuity that pre-existing music limits and restrains.
Elliot was able to question moments in the composition that pushed our creativity further to deepen the connection he had as a Director to the film.
After considering a number of directions, Elliot instructed that the final track was what married all ideas in a way he felt inspired to make some edits to the video cuts and as a result, pushed his creativity further also.

The Result

Bespoke commissions are one of our favourite pieces of work because of the fact we get the opportunity to work so closely with creative teams to bring ideas to life and push barriers further than pre-existing music libraries ever can.
The cost of using library music is always the lack of ability to tailor the cuts, mood and feel of an initiative. By investing in bespoke composition, the emotional engagement and deeper connection to the piece will always elevate a campaign further because of the serendipity of the creative process.
